Go Green to Spring Clean

Traditional cleaning products not only harm our environment, but they can actually detract from your indoor air quality by leaving behind noxious fumes and residues that can worsen
allergies.
Try these eco-friendly alternatives:lemon
· Lemon juice cleans grease and
stains, plus it deodorizes.
· White vinegar can be used to disinfect just about any surface. Mix with water and use it as glass
cleaner. Add organic salts to it for a green scrubbing solution.
· Baking soda will polish stainless steel, remove acid stains, deodorize your fridge and absorb odors from carpet.
· Mix olive oil with lemon juice to replace your furniture polish.

Dear Friend,

We're seeing signs of spring and with the beauty comes pollen, the biggest culprit. It's nothing to sneeze at! More important right now is what we're seeing with the Swine Flu outbreaks.

What many people don't realize is that allergies are disorders of
the immune system. The main cells that regulate the immune system Rosemary and Gracieare T-helper cells. T1 helper cells promote killing of bacterial and viral infected or mutated cells. T2 helper cells promote antibodies to respond to unrecognized matter in the blood. When a harmless substance such as dust, mold or pollen is encountered by a person who is allergic to that substance, the immune system may dramatically overproduce these antibodies, and chemicals called histamines are released. It is the histamines that trigger the runny nose, itchy eyes and other symptoms of allergies.

One of the best ways to combat the phenomena, aside from avoiding known allergens as much as possible, is to strengthen your own body's natural defenses. Pure and potent sources of Beta-glucans can trigger the production of Natural Killer Cells and help balance the immune system.

If you're worried about the Swine Flu, please check out my blog for tips on staying healthy. Seeing the flu when its not really flu season is a sign that we're in for a bigger hit this fall and winter. Now is the time to act in strengthening your defenses, building for prevention!

Have a happy and Healthy day!

It Might Not Be Allergies
      from contributing author,
                   Dr. Rik Deitsch, Biochemist
It may not be allergies; you might be carrying a heavy metal body
burden. There are countless ways this can happen. Exposure to toxic heavy metals is generally classified as acute, 14 days or less; intermediate, 15-354 days; and chronic, more than 365 days.

Acute toxicity is usually from a sudden or unexpected exposure to a high level of the heavy metal (e.g., from careless handling, inadequate safety precautions, or an accidental spill or release of toxic material often in a laboratory, industrial or transportation setting).

Chronic toxicity results from repeated or continuous exposure either in the home or workplace, leading to an accumulation of the toxic substance in the body (e.g. contaminated food, air, water or dust;
living near a hazardous waste site; maternal transfer in the womb; or
from participating in hobbies that use lead paint or solder).

Here's where the allergies tie in. Symptoms of chronic toxicity are often similar to symptoms of allergic reactions such as sinus problems, migraine headaches, itchy or flaky skin, eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, acne, itchy ears, sore or itchy eyes, mouth ulcers, nausea, fatigue and many more. These symptoms could be a sign of chronic heavy metal poisoning and possibly a condition much more severe than simple allergies. Unfortunately, it's impossible to recognize if you aren't tested and don't know to ask.

When treating allergic reactions, consider the possibility of a heavy
metal overload and ask your doctor to test you. The diagnosis of heavy metal toxicity requires observation of symptoms, obtaining a thorough history of potential exposure, and the results of laboratory tests such as hair, blood and urinalysis. Chest x-rays are recommended for persons with respiratory symptoms, and abdominal x-rays can detect ingested metals.
Are We Poisoning Ourselves?

Allergens aren't just found in nature. An allergen can be any foreign substance that the body reacts to, even the body itself. Your body can take in toxins in a multitude of ways, such as inhalation, absorption and consumption.

Man-made toxins are everywhere in our environment,
and even more so in our own homes! From your cleaning products to your makeup to even your beloved pets, there is no way to shield yourself from every existing toxin. But there are ways to reduce your suffering.

· Be an informed consumer. An average person puts nine
personal products with 126 unique chemicals on their skin daily.
· Buy products that are responsible and safe. There are companies, which support these findings and give consumers a better choice.
· Become an active citizen and help support organizations, which are trying to get the FDA, EPA and other government agencies to hold companies responsible.
· Fight toxins from the inside out with exercise, lots
of water and a weekly detoxification plan.
