Dear Friend,
If you were faced with a life-threatening situation regarding your health, what would you do? Where would you go? How about your pet's health?
What if your life weren't exactly "threatened" but you were less than pleased with the quality of your health? What would you do?

A Story of Hope and Success
If you are thinking about letting your dog lick the turkey drippings from the pan this Thanksgiving as a treat, DON'T.
And so our journey began when Ginger developed pancreatitis, and subsequently, insulin dependent diabetes six years ago. Was she more likely to have a reaction to the fat than another dog? Was her health already compromised and this event was just a tipping point for her? Regardless of the speculation, Dove Lewis Emergency Animal Hospital sees a lot of extra cases of pancreatitis this time of year.
In hindsight I know that this event launched a new path in life for me. I became an expert in caring for a diabetic dog, for one. I educated myself on nutrition and made some changes in my family's lifestyle and environment toward better health. You might say that we have a "Good Health Toolbox."
The journey continues as we celebrate Ginger's success through an aggressive blood cancer... without chemotherapy more than one year ago. We still have a lot to learn and to share about making choices and establishing the foundation for good health.
