You've read the labels of the best commercial dog and cat foods. You wonder if "Guaranteed Analysis" means that your dog or cat will have corresponding guaranteed health benefits. If you spend more money for a better package, or get a prescription diet from the vet, is the food better? How can the right pet food, animal nutrition and natural supplements help make your animals healthier?
Since dogs are omnivores (they eat meat and vegetables), nutrition for healthy dogs requires a high quality protein source, complex carbohydrates from vegetable sources, soluble and insoluble fiber, antioxidants, enzymes, probiotics and a full profile of vitamins and minerals. Most packages of commercial pet food will show you all of the above. However, what makes the difference between good animal nutrition and poor pet food is not only substantial, but also life dependent.
Cats are carnivores. They must eat animal-based proteins, not plant-based proteins, preferably fresh and moist. Canned foods are better than dry for their moisture content, as cats tend not to drink as much water as they need. However, preparing a raw diet of meat proteins with added nutrients may provide the best choice for your cat.
The Effects of Poor Diet on Pet Health
Many health issues can be helped or even resolved with proper nutrition, detoxification and nutritional supplements for pets. Water, for example, is often ignored as an essential ingredient in an animal's diet. In addition, many commercial foods use plant-based proteins and carbohydrates as fillers. Not only are these ingredients not always helpful, they can, in fact, be harmful, especially to an animal that is already showing signs of illness or stress.
As a result, your pet may suffer from kidney failure, digestive issues, autoimmune diseases, cancer, skin conditions and allergies, to name a few. Understanding what your pet needs is my specialty. Let me help you get started with a free consultation.

Health challenges may arise as your pet ages and your animal may show signs of discomfort or serious illness, like cancer, diabetes and arthritis. Diet and good nutritional supplementation are a part of your dog's recovery and road to better health. More importantly, removing toxins first helps everything else work better.

"Just wanted to give you an update on my Aluna girl. I decided to take her in for a 3 day IV kidney cleanse/flush to see if we could bring her levels to normal range, and then to see if she could keep them there. They tested her kidneys before the flush...and they were at normal healthy levels!! Between the anti-biotics and NCD drops ... I had been giving her it seems to have worked. She is back to eating and drinking fairly normally. Thank you very much." Aymey Sangill, Portland, OR
"We got Zeus, our German Shepherd, at 8 weeks old in San Diego and he had problems from the beginning. He had a herniated umbilical cord and terrible skin allergies. At the time we had him on the food that the breeder recommended, a pretty good dry food. We soon changed food because he had diarrhea and vomited more than we thought was normal. We took him to a dermatologist for his skin allergies and he went on antibiotics and steroids consistently for several years. We also had him tested and went through giving him daily shots for a while, which did not help, he hated the shots!!!'
"After all this we found that low dose steroids daily was the only thing that made him comfortable for any amount of time. The vomiting and diarrhea continued after several changes in dry foods, we also mixed canned food, only to make it worse. His allergies seemed to get better so we stopped any medication and he still has some episodes, but much better.'
"About 10 months ago, in November 2010, we met Rosemary and after considering it and talking about it, I decided to try a new raw diet and NCD Zeolite. He eats only raw meat and fresh vegetables. It took about a month to see a difference, and about 3 months to REALLY see a difference. Zeus is like a new dog, he no longer has diarrhea, no more waking me up in the middle of the night to go out, AMAZING! He would have to go out during the night about half the time and was miserable. Zeus is the best dog, he is gentle and calm and the most loving animal, I am so happy to see him healthy!" Elaina Coffey, Portland, OR
